Fertility Abbreviations/Terms



2ww - The 2-week-wait (aka the time in her cycle when a woman who is TTC becomes CRAZY, waiting to see if her period will come or if she will get a BFP.)

AF - Aunt Flo, your monthly period

BD (BDing, BD) - "Baby Dancing" aka intercourse.

BFP - Big Fat Positive (pregnancy test)

BFN - Big Fat Negative (pregnancy test)

B/W - Bloodwork

CD - Cycle Day (example, CD1 is the start of your period.)

Cervix - The cervix is the lower narrow portion of the uterus where it joins with the top end of the vagina.

Clomid - Fertility Drug

DPO - Days Past Ovulation (example, 7dpo - 7 days past ovulation)

Egg donation - "The process by which a woman provides one or several eggs for purposes of assisted reproduction (aka IVF)."

Endo - Endometriosis (fertility issue)

Femara - Fertility Drug

FMU - First morning urine (the best to use when testing for pregnancy.)

Follicles (follies) - The ovarian follicle is found in the ovary and contains the eggs.

Gonal F - Fertility Drug

HSG - Fertility Test

IUI - Intrauterine Insemination (fertility treament)

Implantation - The act of baby snuggling into your uterus for a nice long stay.

IVF - In Vitro Fertilization (the ultimate fertility treatment)

Lap - Laporoscopy (used to diagnose/treat endometriosis)

M/C - miscarriage

OBGYN - Obstetrian/Gynecologist

+OPK - Positive Ovulation Predictor Kit

Ovulation (O/Oing/O-time) - Ovulation is the process in a woman's cycle where a mature follicle releases an egg.

PCT - Post Coital Test

Rainbow baby - A baby who is conceived after a m/c, stillbirth or infant loss. (A rainbow after the storm.)

RE - Reproductive Endocrinologist (fertility doctor)

SMU - Second morning urine (the best to use when testing for ovulation.)

Spotting - Tiny spots of brown or red blood, usually preceding AF.

TTC - Trying To Conceive

U/S - Ultrasound
